Day one of US President Donald Trump’s impeachment trial began with House managers, including Representatives Adam Schiff and Jerry Nadler, holding a news conference.
A separate news conference was then held by Senate Democratic leader Chuck Schumer, along with Senators Dick Durbin, Patty Murray, and Debbie Stabenow as the politicians tried to control the pre-trial narrative.
Then after the Senate convened, we heard opening statements from Senate leaders Mitch McConnell and Chuck Schumer before proceedings officially began.
There were several fiery speeches with White House Counsel Pat Cipollone slamming Adam Schiff as ‘outrageous’.
A Democratic congressman even quoted rapper The Notorious B.I.G. while answering questions on the Senate floor during President Trump’s impeachment hearing.
Hakeem Jeffries, a New York Democrat, referenced the line from his home borough’s beloved rapper on Tuesday as a way to justify the trial to Trump’s lawyer, Jay Sekulow.

Democrats and Trump’s team traded haymakers in the opening round of Tuesday’s impeachment fight.
Democrats opened the proceedings by demanding Trump be “removed from office” before he can “cheat his way to victory in 2020” as the impeachment trial begins.
