Russian President Vladimir Putin discussed trade and security with his Philippine counterpart Rodrigo Duterte on the sidelines of the 16th annual meeting of the Valdai Discussion Club in Sochi on Thursday.
Putin told Duterte that trade between Russia and the Philippines had doubled in 2018, adding that Russian exports to the country increased fourfold during the same period.
The Russian leader also praised the Philippine president for his efforts in the fight against terrorism, saying Moscow was ready to continue anti-terrorism collaboration with Manila.
Duterte on his part reaffirmed “strong commitment to build robust and comprehensive partnership” with Russia.
The 16th annual meeting of the Valdai Discussion Club kicked off in Sochi on September 30. This year’s event gathers together high-level officials and experts from around the globe for discussion under the theme ‘The Dawn of the East and the World Political Order.’
